Barbecue Shrimp Lafayette

.....This is a dish with a sauce that is sinfully rich and delicious. Don't forget the french bread!

Ingredients:

3 lb fresh shrimp, small to medium, heads-off, with shell on.
Cayenne pepper
Black pepper
Garlic powder
1 lb butter (4 sticks)
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
juice of two fresh lemons
1/4 teaspoon Tabasco

Directions:

  1. Wash and drain shrimp well. Place in glass microwave-proof dish.  Sprinkle shrimp generously with cayenne pepper, black pepper, garlic and place in glass dish. (7x11) When you think you have put enough seasonings, put on some more. You are seasoning the shrimp through the shells, so it takes a lot more. a lot more...  Did I mention a lot more?

  2. Prepare sauce in the microwave by heating the butter, Worcestershire, juice of two lemons, and Tabasco in a 4 cup measure on high 1 1/2 – 2 minutes and mixing together.

  3. Pour sauce over shrimp and cover with wax paper. Place shrimp in microwave and cook on high 5-7 minutes. Stir shrimp once or twice during cooking time until all shrimp are pink and tender. Time can vary according to your microwave power.

  4. Let stand for three minutes and test for doneness.

  5. Serve with French bread for dipping in the hot butter sauce. Delicious!!!

Don't purchase farm-raised shrimp. It has a tendency to be tasteless, mealy and is a poor substitute for 'real' shrimp.

Needless to say, this is not a low cholesterol dish. But it is oooohhhh soooo good!
